🕸️We know it's Halloween, but there's nothing SCARY👻 about writing an essay when you're in Mrs. Horstick's 8th Grade ELA class! 🧟Students worked together to write their thesis statements, making sure everyone was heard, was accurate, and everyone had one that was meaningful to them. Now that this crucial groundwork has been laid, no written assignment will haunt them again! 🫠☠️ Happy Halloween! 🎃

🥳️ We are thrilled to round-out our building administration appreciation posts by introducing you to a woman who needs no introduction (but we're going to give you one, anyway!)...our incredible elementary principal, Hope Lickteig! With her passion for education and dedication to our students, Mrs. Lickteig has transformed our school community. Her innovative approach to learning and unwavering support for both students and staff create a nurturing environment where everyone can thrive. She is always looking for ways to include the community, celebrate everyone, and is always seen lending help wherever it is needed! *Professional Background:* I graduated from Pittsburg State University in 2008 and taught in the Spring Hill School District for 6 years and taught 2nd grade and 4th grade. In 2013 I earned my Masters Degree in Technology Integration from Pittsburg State University. I began working at Central Heights as a Kindergarten teacher in 2014, I also taught 3rd grade for 3 years and then returned to Kindergarten while earning my Leadership Certification from Pittsburg State University in 2022. *Fun fact, hidden talent, or something students would be surprised to know about you?* I have a pretty wicked witch cackle that the students make me do often. But something most find CRAZY weird is that I don't like ice cream or chocolate! *What do you love about your job and being a Viking?* I have never looked at my time in education as a job. I absolutely love working in education whether that be teaching or now an administrator. Getting to work with children and help share their love for learning is so important to me. I love learning something new everyday and bettering myself so teaching students to be able to feel the same way is an incredible feeling. I love building connections with our community and families. Being a Viking means leading with strength, resilience and a strong sense of teamwork. That's what I see in all Vikings and why I love being one. Hope believes in the power of collaboration and encourages creativity in every classroom. Her leadership inspires our students to reach their full potential and fosters a love of learning that will last a lifetime. What do YOU love about Mrs. Lickteig? Share in the comments below!

Good afternoon, We just wanted to give a quick shout out to everyone who made today's Cross Country Regional possible! Thank you course Marshalls, finish line workers, awards helpers, parents, and anyone else who helped! We would also like to recognize Mr. Paul Haney for allowing us to use his property through the years! Then we have Mr. Prosser who not only coaches, but keeps the course maintained, marks the course, sets things up, and keeps things running smoothly! We have such a great community! Oh by the way our girls team was the Regional runner-up and the boys were the Regional champions! We know there will be more posts coming, so we will stop there! State next weekend at Wamego! GO VIKINGS!!!!

What could be better than an exciting pep rally? This afternoon, we kicked off the weekend with a blast! We got hyped for the cross-country regionals at home tomorrow and sent off our Viking football team to their game at Humboldt tonight. We celebrated so many outstanding students and staff for their accomplishments this past month, from teacher and staff member of the month awardees and nominees to those who made the Honor Roll with all A's and B's, students who have missed 2 days or fewer so far this school year, students who play an instrument, New Horizon Teacher Award—Eric Reece, Lighthouse Teams, Athletic Teams, and Vocal Music! Plus, we had fun with the inflatable relay race—watching K-12 and staff in hilarious inflatables was a highlight! Photo Credits: Ava Bergen, Jesse King and Autumn Fraser

Congratulations to Mr. Eric Reece on being Central Heights' 2025 Kansas Horizon Teacher Award nominee! "The Kansas Horizon Award Program, sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, identifies and recognizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state." (ksde.org) Mr. Reece has done a fantastic job in his first year of teaching science in the middle school, and will now go on to the state-level! Best of luck, Mr. Reece! We're all cheering for you!
