Dear Parents/Patrons: As you know we are hosting a varsity track meet at Central Heights this Thursday. In past year we’ve always had high school students assist in running off our field events (high jump, long jump, triple, jump, shot put, javelin and discus). We’ve also had them be hurdle hustlers (move and adjust the hurdles depending on the races being run. For whatever reason(s) our students are not offering to help out as in years past. Therefore we are in DESPERATE need of help for the track meet on Thursday! The middle school coaches are trying to round up middle school students who might be able to help but if any of you would be willing to help out it would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to keep any of you from watching your child perform at their event(s). If you have a child who is running an event you would be able to go and watch him/her run. However if you have a child that is in a field event I could make sure you would work that event! The field events begin at 3PM so we would need helpers here at 2:45 if at all possible. If you are able to help please contact me via email (dnorth@usd288.org) or text me at 785-550-7533.

Calendar 18-19
Good morning Viking family. Yesterday Wednesday March 14 was one of my worst days i have ever experienced. Things simply did not go well, and i want to begin today by explaining part of what happened. I will begin with the first call you received from me. I wanted to let evryone know there was a threat, but we didn’t want details out while the officers were investigating, so I sent out the first call. This morning the situation is different. Interviews have been completed and the actual situation has been disclosed to many people, so I can reveal the threat and not interfere with the investigation. A message was written on the stall of the boys bathroom in the high school circle stating someone was going to shoot up the school the first day back from break. (That is not an exact quote, but that is the general idea.) The sheriff’s officers interviewed several people last evening and were still working on that when I tried to send out the second call. That second call was a disastor and i apologize for it. Technology is great when it works well and frustrating when it doesn’t! The system would not send out my recorded message for some reason. We were having our regular monthly board meeting and I tried to send the call at approximately 10:00 with my cell phone. A short time later we realized that none of us had received the call! From then on it was a mess trying to find a way to send out the call. I am sorry we had to use the electronic robo call voice, but that was all that would work. During the board meeting we experienced some very tense moments when a staff member became ill and we called the ambulance. (I would like to express a very special thank you to those of you with medical skills that helped handle that situation. You were fantastic.) That situation was quite emotional and changed our focus on things. Getting reports from the investigating officers and sending out the folliw up call were not our priority during that episode That brings us today. I am posting this message quite early and HOPE to send out a phone call around 6:30 to everyone explaining this same imformation. The plan is to have law enforcement at school today and on the first day back from Spring Break. I didn’treceive a call last night saying we had a confession or a suspect so i can understand there is a reluctance to send students to school today. None the less, we will be open and having school today. Abssences will be excused, but I hope to see students attending and teachers teaching. In short, I hope we have a great day at school today at Central Heights. Brian Spencer
