Kaydance Bond Will Be Published!
The eighth graders wrote poetry about the eclipse this fall. Kaydance Bond submitted her poem to the Scholastic Publishing Student Poetry Contest. Scholastic Publishing selected Kaydance’s poem as a winner in the preliminary round. Her poem will be published in the 2017 Rising Stars Collection which is published by Appelley Publishing. A copy of this book will be available in our middle school library. We are very proud of Kaydance and her success.
Eclipse Day
by Kaydance Bond
We came out from fifth hour,
Middle school, high school, and all
Middle school went towards the track
By the fields where they play baseball
We put on our glasses
That blocked out the sun
The teachers kept saying “Don’t take them off!”
And for good reason
The sixth grade went to the batting cages
And the 7th grade went to the football field
While we eighth graders were on the sidewalk
Where we talked and laughed and revealed
Everybody was eager to see the eclipse
They kept on checking the sky
But all they could see was the beginning
Before some annoying clouds flew by
Soon after it got darker
We all knew what was happening
The moon was in front of the sun
But there was still clouds passing
We checked more and more
We all wanted to see
What this wonderful experience
Would really be
After a while it got lighter
And we all missed it
Just because of some clouds
That should have just split
We got disappointed
But it’s okay
We saw the beginning
And it was still a great day
